Was This You?

I know you all love books but I had no idea that you would all rush out to where my hundreds of culled books went and raid it…

I mean the least you could have done is pop for a coffee!

On a serious note the story is a sad one, I mean who would actually raid a charity shop, disgraceful. I did though have visions of all of you rushing into my local book charity shop (which isn’t the one that got raided) with empty bags going bonkers. Of course I know you would pay for your wares! It just made me think of you all.

  1. Oh, that’s really sad… But does that mean you’ll have to go and give them more books?

    • I actually have been back with a bag of books, it wasnt that charity shop that got hit. In all serious I couldn’t believe that someone has actually done that, to any shop let alone a charity shop.

My Mum works in a charity shop and she says that it is unbelievable about the amount of theft that goes on. Very sad indeed as these shops heavily rely on donations and volunteers to make money for the charities and then some scallies just take what they want. You’ve got to be real scum to steal from a charity shop. :(

    • Really? I can’t believe that people would steal from a chairty shop, that is crazy. Weirdly, and sadly, it doesn’t actually surprise me that much though. I agree though you have to be scum to do that, not that I would impy any of my readers are scum with a post like this, I just weirdly (black humour) thought of book lovers dashing there.

  3. My first thought was that you went to rescue your books :)

  4. There was an Acorn shop round here that was raided three times I think. Sad world, especially if the people who robbed it felt this was their last option. You’ll have to check their stock was ok and not just their cash taken.

I’m afraid charity shops suffer because their takings tend to be mostly, if not entirely cash.

With my charity finance proessional hat on I hope you don’t mind me mentioing that while charities can get banking facilities at cost (from CAF bank which is supported by the Charities Commission) they get no such concessions when it comes to taking credit cards, and the associated costs can be huge.
