And the winner of the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction 2015 is…

Ali Smith with How To Be Both…

I am thrilled as Ali Smith is an author I have been a fan of for quite a few years (you can see me rave about her and How To Be Both here) and who I was lucky enough to champion. Head here to talk about the book more. Congrats Ali! Now I need to read Rachel Cusk, Anne Tyler and Sarah Waters don’t I? What are your thoughts on the winner and the short list?

  1. I had decided ten days ago to quickly read the six shortlisted books. “How to Be Both” wasn’t the easiest read, but I tell you, the second I finished reading it I badly wanted to go back to page one and read it all over again. I probably would have except I still had one of the shortlisted books to read; but I will definitely read it again. I thoroughly enjoyed several of the titles, but I have to say I’d put this one at the top of my list. It was so inventive and yet not so clever as to lose its charm. Inventive, witty, and utterly charming. I loved both halves of the book. I don’t always love prize winners, but in this case I think the judges chose well.
