Classically Challenged Giveaway #3; Great Expectations – Charles Dickens

In conjuncture with Classically Challenged  the lovely Oxford University Press are kindly giving away three copies of the third Classically Challenged choice, as voted by you, ‘Great Expectations’ by Charles Dickens on Savidge Reads and another three on AJ’s blog too. But as we discovered the international postage takes longer you only have 24 hours to do so, this means you will get them with some time to spare!

So what do you have to do to win one of these novels?  Well, now that you have asked, you need to do the same thing, but twice. So we would like you to tell us which author you have the greatest expectations of and why? AND you need to do this on both mine AND also AJ’s blogs. This actually gives you double the chance of winning and also means both me and AJ get to chat to you, as it were, which is doubly nice all round.

You have just 24 hours to enter the draw (so basically 14.3 GMT on the 26th of November) and the winners will be chosen at random out of a hat and announced by a special guest I’m introducing you all to tomorrow. Good luck!

Great Expectations is actually the one Dickens I want to read, so I’ll enter! (I’ve read Hard Times a couple of years ago and didn’t like it, but I’m interested in Great Expectations, so I’ll give Dickens another chance.)

I have the greatest expectations of Margaret Atwood, simply because I love her work so much!

  3. Just to let you all know that my version of this post is now open over at my blog too, so you can get your entries in.

    Good luck!

  4. I guess of authors I haven’t read, probably Dickens. Maybe this is why I’m scared to read him, worried it will be a let down!
If you’re talking about authors I have read, I think probably Jeanette Winterson. I read all of her books, and always expect them to be enjoyable and full of gorgeous prose. Which they usually are, with the odd blip.

I have the greatest expectations of E.F. Benson…which has me scared to actually read Queen Lucia and the following books in the series. I’ve heard so much about how wonderful the Mapp & Lucia books are that I’m afraid of the let down if they don’t live up to their hype. Hopefully, I will get over that and start them next year! 🙂

I have chosen Edith Wharton as my author that I have the greatest expectations of. I own several of her books, have seen numerous blog posts singing her praises, but have yet to read even one of her books. I am very glad that we will be reading one of her books in January.

  7. Mine is Gabriel Garcia Marquez and it’s mostly because he won the Nobel Prize in Literature! I’ve not read any of his work yet. But I’m planning to read his books next year. So I’m buying his books these days and I’ve bought 6 so far! 😀

Paulo Coelho: as I have read much about his inspirational writing, and thought provoking books. At my time of life, I could do with a little spiritual enlightenment!
